THE ALE TRAIL IN CENTRAL PA

I saw a new magazine in my local Border's the other day, "In Central PA Magazine-Living the good life". The cover story intrigued me and it is published by The Patriot News-Harrisburg. Interesting. The cover is a freshly poured LBC beer into a pint glass, yummy entitled: THE ALE TRAIL, We take you on a tour of the midstate's brewpubs. (you'll need a ride home).

Yes, we all know that an influx of brewpubs has turned PA into beer country, (it always has been) and this magazine hits the trail to find the best brews and the best brew pub grub and interviews the entrepreneurs along the way. It is a nice article. Check it out, especially if yo ar new or just visiting the area.

Memories of last weekend

Yes, it is true I spent 8 hours last Saturday @ Iron Hill Brewery in Lancaster, PA. I was there for their 1st year anniversary mug club party and it was the day before my birthday. A lot of my friends showed up and my brewmaster PAUL was there and I got to meet Chris, head brewmaster, @ West Chester's Iron Hill. I got to sample some Bourbon Barrel aged brews and enjoyed their Porter! Oh, I had a hang over the next day but what fun I had. Plus, the cool poster and t-shirt, I aquired. I am heading back to iron Hill tomorrow but I am not staying fr 8 hours, at least I will try not too!! :)

The New Yorker Food Issue Nov. 24, 2008 issue

Dogfish Head is prominently featured in the 11/24/08 Food Issue of The New Yorker in a fantastic (okay, maybe I'm a bit biased) article about craft beer. The article, "A Better Brew, The Rise Of Extreme Beer" was written by Burkhard Bilger. Bilger spent quite a bit of time with us (both here at the brewery and on the road) for the piece and we had a lot of fun working with him. In the article, Bilger chronicles our test batch of Sah-tea, goes with us on our 2008 trip to the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado, and examines the role of 'extreme beers' in the craft beer world.
Click over to The New Yorker website to check out the article, click here.
Happy Reading... (and if you don't already, subscribe to The New Yorker!)

The New Yorker is an American magazine that publishes reportage, commentary, criticism, essays, fiction, satire, cartoons, and poetry. Starting as a weekly February 21, 1925, the magazine is now published 47 times per year, with five of these issues covering two-week spans. Although its reviews and events listings often focus on the cultural life of New York City, The New Yorker has a wide audience outside of New York. It is well known for its commentaries on popular culture and eccentric Americana; its attention to modern fiction by the inclusion of short stories and literary reviews; its rigorous fact checking and copyediting; its journalism on world politics and social issues; and its famous, single-panel cartoons sprinkled throughout each issue.

I Love THE NEW YORKER!! Cheers!

PLUM Street Pub Crawl Lancaster PA 11/26/08

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! STRETCH YOUR LIVERS! BEHOLD, THE DRINKINGEST DAY OF THE YEAR!!

THANKSGIVING EVE ..Our 4th Annual Thanksgiving Eve Plum Street Crawl - NEXT WEDNESDAY. From 505 Happy Hour email list I belong too:
In the past these events have been a blast, so plan early for this one. The concept is simple: This is the biggest drinking night of the year in the US. It even surpasses the Alcoholidays of St. Paddy's Day and New Years Eve... Because of the "Amateur Night" mentality, Law Enforcement is beefed up on the highways so the Lancaster 505 becomes responsible, parks their cars, and hoofs it up Plum Street all night. Pre-gaming (aka, dinner) starts around 8pm at Quips. The "official" drinking will start at 9pm at Stubbys, the move on to American Bar & Grill (Yes, we are skipping the Fulton... eew) entirely, back tracking to Hall's Cafe, and then ending at the 915. Don't ask why the screwed up order... We just wanted to confuse everyone, plus Mike from Hall's wants to drink with us after work so we're ending at the 915 Cafe. No RSVP needed, but feel free to give us a email heads up if you are so inclined.

Olbermann Special Comment: Proposition 8

Please watch all of this Special Comment from Keith. It is just about love!

Message for ALL of My Friends-It's about love

MESSAGE FOR YOUR FRIENDS:
Hi, Have you signed the pledge to repeal Prop 8? I just did.
And over 200,000 other people have signed the pledge from the Courage Campaign, CREDO Mobile, and MoveOn.org to repeal Prop 8 and restore marriage equality to California: http://www.couragecampaign.org/RepealProp8
Usually, discussions of political issues wind down after elections, but Prop 8 is not about politics. It is about love, equality and civil rights. That's why we cannot let the passage of Prop 8 stand. We all need to talk to our family and friends about the importance of restoring marriage equality to California. That is why I am asking you to sign the pledge to repeal Prop 8 and to tell your friends by forwarding this message. Thanks.

Send Leaves-Grey's Anatomy-Save Brooke

Subject: GLBT and Straight Friends/Allies - we need your help!

**ABC has recently chosen a path of intolerance and ignorance. And we need your help to let them know that's not okay.

You may have heard already about the abrupt firing of actress Brooke Smith from Grey's Anatomy. Her character Erica Hahn just came out as lesbian on the episode that aired October 30th on ABC. After viewing this episode, ABC deemed the character unacceptable for their network and the storyline too "explicit". I'm providing a link to the scene that prompted this firing. The only thing "explicit" about it is its honesty and raw acting. There is nothing physically explicit in it and has not been since the storyline started. It seems the very existence of a gay character was enough for ABC to immediately pull the plug on this storyline, and dismiss an actor involved with the show almost from the beginning.

The executives gave the Producers ONE show to "disappear" this storyline after a build-up spreading across two seasons. (The show kept the actress playing the doubting bisexual, presumably because she would be more palatable to the general audience). That last show will air November 6th.!! From advance word, it promises to be sudden and nonsensical. ABC has issued a statement that this is an "organic" ending to this storyline and has nothing to do with Smith's character being lesbian. We expect a further release soon stating the sky is not blue.

This is a clear case of nervous homophobia on the part of ABC. Treating the lives of lesbian and bi -women as normally as their straight counterparts on the show was deemed unacceptable by the network.

**This protest is NOT simply a case of being disgruntled that a favorite character on a serial television show has been let go. It's outrage that a character, an actress and by extension lesbian/bi viewers, have been treated so dismissively and with such disrespect and condescension. This is about GLBT rights and visibility! On the heels of Prop. 8 passing in California, it seems a giant step backwards for GLBT rights is in the air. We want to protest that trend. PLEASE HELP!

1) VIEW THIS VIDEO, to see what all the fuss is about:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqrwo6UBefk

2) THEN MAIL ACTUAL LEAVES to the Network and the Producers of Grey's! We want a dramatic and creative response to show them how much we support this storyline and GLBT folks, in general. Send as little or as many leaves as you want. Envelopes or a big box. But send some today. Please. If you can include a short note saying "We see leaves too!" or "We support Brooke" or the like, that would be great. Have more to say? Even better.

(**It's probably best not to identify on the OUTside that your mail is part of this campaign. Make them open it!)

What year is it?

What year is it? A crappy economy, a pivotal election, and the return of AC/DC. Is it us or did 1980's just crawl through the back door?
