Chestnut Hill Cafe opens in Lancaster PA

Former grocery becomes coffee shop....
Chestnut Street Cafe has finally opened. The cafe/coffee shop also serves soup, sandwiches and ice cream.....

A new city coffee shop, Chestnut Hill Cafe, opened July 27 at West Chestnut and Pine streets. The cafe at 532 W. Chestnut St., is a project of Paula Light, Doreen Landis and Stephanie Bennett, who own Pennsylvania Fudge Company, which has a stand at Central Market. The trio did most of the extensive renovations on the former grocery store themselves, although they say they had a lot of help from relatives, friends and some local businesses. The cafe, which seats about 40, boasts a fireplace, stained-glass windows and part of a counter made from recycled bowling lanes.

In addition to coffee, pastries and bagels, the menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, ice cream and a yogurt bar. The owners plan to host music on Sunday afternoons.Hours: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. I hope to check out the cafe very soon. Check out scoot lancaster for another post on the cafe and a great photo.

I was delighted to see that Chestnut Hill Cafe opened. I stopped by today and had a terrific lunch (tomato and mozzarella sandwich, cup of great coffee, and delightful star cookie). The place is light and very warm, and the people behind the counter were even warmer. Doreen could not have been nicer. A great spot for Chestnut Hill and all of Lancaster

The Cafe is beautiful and has been a great addition to the neighborhood. The food is very good and they have a great selection. My only disappointment at times is the level of service. Aside from my order getting lost occasionally, it's the little things that customers like. For example, when serving you outside they could bring you a napkin; they don't. Therefore, once your food is brought to you, you must then follow them indoors and get your own. Just simple little things like this make the experience so much more positive. I'm hearing the same comments in "the community". Hopefully these are growing pains and they get the staff up to speed as I really want to see them be successful.

Ate there tonight, June 19, 2009. What an incredible experience. Quaint. Casual yet with an upscale or "warm" feel that make you feel like you are SOMEWHERE. Amazingly caring staff. Great menu.

It is a diggen treasure in the city, which becomes more impressive every minute.
