Not All State Employees to be Paid - Yet
I love how almost all media outlets have stated repeating that state workers are now being paid and receiving paychecks. NOT TRUE. Why doesn't media people do they're homework? They are getting paid to work-right?
All state employees will not be paid as a result of the interim budget signed by the governor this past week. Some state employees (hello like ME) will need special appropriations passed in order to receive their wages. These are the independents and they are listed below.
These Bills (listed below) were voted in the House today and they all passed. Next they will go to the Senate. The Senate returns Monday, 8/10/09. Return from where you may be thinking-vacation yes VACATION, or how the senate likes to call it recess. If the Senate votes for the Bills, and we expect them to do that, the Bills will go to the governor on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
I received an email/letter from the Governor stating he plans on signing the bills to pay us immediately.
There are approximately 1600 employees affected by the eight Bills listed below, and of that number, about 500 are AFSCME represented (me). If the governor signs these Bills on Tuesday (Wednesday), the employees will be paid within about 5 days, according to the information I have (union) been provided. This means they would be paid later than the state employees, under the governor’s jurisdiction.
Special Funds Bills
1. Public School Employees’ Retirement Fund – House Bill 1419 (Voted favorably from House Appropriations); Bluebacks delivered Senate (DO 3041)
2. State Employees’ Retirement Fund -- House Bill 1420 (Voted favorably from House Appropriations); bluebacks delivered to Senate (DO 3034)
3. Bureau of Professional & Occupational Affairs- House Bill 1421 (Voted favorably from House Appropriations); Bluebacks delivered to Senate (DO 3047) 9ME)
4. Workmen’s Compensation Administration Fund-House Bill 1422 (Voted favorably from House Appropriations); Bluebacks delivered Senate (DO 3033)
5. Public Utility Commission – House Bill 1423 (Voted favorably from House Appropriations); Bluebacks delivered Senate (DO 3049)
6. Consumer Advocate – House Bill 1424 (Voted favorably from House Appropriations); Bluebacks delivered Senate (DO 3032)
7. Small Business Advocate – House Bill 1425 (Voted favorably from House Appropriations); Bluebacks delivered Senate (DO 3045)

Part of this posting is from the AFSCME 13 union web site. I am not sure what bluebacks are but they seem to be better than bearbacks or teabaggin. (hahaha)
